We pride ourselves on our professionalism, communication and wholistic patient care. As our boutique business expands, we will continue to update our patients on our growing range of services.
Practice Costs & Fees
Beachside Specialist Group is a private billing specialist medical practice. We require payment in full at the time of your consultation. Fees can be paid in cash, or by credit card or direct debit.
Dermatologists and Ophthalmologists are highly trained specialist doctors who have acquired their skills over decades as well as multiple degrees and qualifications. Their fees reflect their knowledge and experience. They also cover the extensive costs of operating a medical practice including staffing. Medical Dermatology and Ophthalmology requires a more in-depth assessment of a patient. Higher fees for these consults reflect the time it takes to see assess and manage these patients well. Each specialist operates independently within the business and has the right to set their own fees. You will be provided with a written quote for the cost of services before any appointment or procedure. Only one medical issue can be addressed per appointment unless agreed to in advance and is reflected in your referral. This is to ensure you always receive the highest quality care.
Our Location
Beachside Specialist Group is conviently located on the first floor of Noosa Central in Noosa Junction. Our practice is light and airy and embodies the relaxed and casual coastal lifestyle.

Preparing for your appointment
If you are attending for a Dermatology appointment, in particular a full skin check, you are asked to attend wearing suitable clothes to undress, and to come makeup and nail polish free. If you are a new patient, please arrive at least 10 minutes in advance of your appointment to complete your intake paperwork. If you arrive on time for your appointment, completing these forms will reduce your time with the doctor. Please make sure that you bring any relevant bloodwork or investigations with you to the appointment. If you attend with a valid referral, we can electronically submit your account to Medicare. Your rebate will be issued into which ever bank account you have set up with Medicare within 24 hours. Information regarding our costs and fees can be accessed in our Cost and Fees section.
We make every effort to keep to time, but on occasions, a complex case earlier in the day can cause subsequent appointments to run late. This is not predictable. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this event. Although it’s unlikely to require it, please allow up to 1.5 hours for your appointment.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
-
Dermatologists are specialized medical professionals proficient in treating a wide array of skin, hair, and nail conditions, including skin cancer. They cater to patients of all ages and employ various medical, surgical, procedural, and cosmetic techniques in their practice. The Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) is the only organisation accredited to train and assess dermatologists in Australia. Entry into the program is highly competitive. They are the true specialists in skin.
Dermatologists diagnose, treat, and manage over 3,000 skin conditions, ranging from psoriasis and eczema to acne and skin cancer. They conduct thorough examinations, considering both physical symptoms and overall well-being. Treatment plans may involve medications, surgery, procedures, or lifestyle adjustments based on individual needs. Patients receive detailed explanations of recommended treatments, potential side effects, associated risks, and costs, enabling informed decision-making.
To become dermatologists, individuals undergo extensive education and training, starting with a medical degree, followed by at least two years of hospital training. Specialized dermatology training, accredited by the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD), spans a minimum of four years, culminating in exams. "FACD" signifies a Fellow of the ACD, ensuring the highest level of expertise and ongoing professional development.
Most Australian dermatologists operate in private practices, often in metropolitan areas. They may also hold positions in hospitals, engage in research, and contribute to clinical trials. Many provide outreach and telehealth services to regional and remote areas, extending their expertise beyond urban centers.

Ophthalmologists are medical specialists equipped to provide a full spectrum of eye care, including the prescription of glasses, contact lenses, medical treatments, and complex microsurgery.
Ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand undergo extensive training, with a minimum of 12 years of education and practical experience. This includes 6-7 years in medical school, 2 years of basic medical training, and 5 years of specialized ophthalmic training, which involves up to 12,000 hours of hands-on experience, including surgery. The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) oversees this training, setting rigorous examinations to ensure high standards.
Many ophthalmologists are also actively engaged in scientific research to advance understanding and treatment of eye diseases. Upon completing the Vocational Training Program (VTP) by RANZCO, ophthalmologists are prepared for unsupervised practice, contributing to the field's ongoing development.

Although in person appointments are considered the gold-standard of clinical care, there are some presentations that are amendable to Telehealth. Where appropriate and requested, Telehealth appointments are available for your patients.

A referral is not strictly required to see one of our doctors, however to be eligible for the full medicare rebate a valid referral is necessary.

We recognise that some presentations are more acute than others. Emergency presentations aside, all doctors at Beachside Specialist Group will endeavour to accomodate these acute presentations through our ‘Quick Access Appointments’. This will require an appropriate referral where the urgency of the request is clearly indicated. We also encourage the referring doctor or their staff to contact our administration to alert us to the referral.

Severe acne is a condition that can result in scarring. Subsequently, our dermatologists aim to see these patients expeditiously. The patient’s first appointment will be directly with the dermatologist. To increase access to care, there are before and after school and work appointments available.
-
We welcome all rural and regional patients and understand the limited availability of specialist services outside of Australian metropolitan cities. Some appointments may be suitable for Telehealth, and where feasible, we’ll endeavour to offer this to your patient.
-
There is a continuing high level of demand for specialist services across Australia and a list of patients waiting to be seen. To manage this demand, Beachside Specialist Group requires notification 24 hours in advance if you are not able to attend your appointment so that we may offer your appointment to another patient. A fee of $100 will be charged for failing to attend your scheduled and confirmed appointment, and for last minute cancellations of less than 24 hours’ notice (except in exceptional circumstances). We understand that unforeseeable events may arise but we encourage you to let us know as early as possible if you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment to avoid such fees. A replacement appointment is generally not offered for missed appointments and rebooking of those appointments may only be considered after the cancellation fee for the missed appointment is paid in full.
