Dr Kendall Sharpe
BSc Biomed (Hons 1), MBBS, FACD
PRINCIPAL DERMATOLOGIST
Dr Kendall Sharpe is a Fellow of the prestigious Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) and established Beachside Specialist Group to provide much needed dermatological services to the people of the Sunshine Coast and surrounds.
Her special interests in dermatology include acne, hair loss, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancer medicine, women’s dermatology, restorative oncodermatology and aesthetic medicine. She is passionate about environmental sustainability, holistic medicine, ethical and evidence based skin care and procedures. She is an active member of the Australasian College of Dermatology’s Environmental Sustainability Group. Prior to medicine, Dr Sharpe worked as research scientist at the University of Queensland and the University of Western Australia, with expertise in Lymphedema, Burns Resuscitation, Body Composition, Food Science and Dementia. She has presented at several national and international conferences and has authored a number of scientific papers. She completed her Bachelor of Science (Hons I) at the University of Queensland and her graduate medical degree at the University of Western Australia.
She completed her extensive training in Dermatology in 2022. During her registrarship, Dr Sharpe held training positions in both Queensland and New South Wales at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Queensland Institute of Dermatology, Prince of Wales and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Mater Hospital Brisbane. She is passionate about medical education and was the Gold Coast University Hospital’s first Medical Education Registrar. She continues to engage in educational activities including regular GP training events, nurse training and medical student supervision.
Outside of work Dr Sharpe is passionate about art, creative writing and vintage furniture. If she wasn’t a Dermatologist her dream job would be director of an art gallery, author of detective fiction or an interior designer. She loves living on the beautiful Sunshine Coast with her husband and their fluffy ginger cat, Florence.
Dr Katherine York
MBBCh, FC Derm, MMED, FACD, Hair & Scalp Fellowship
DERMATOLOGIST
Dr Katherine York is a fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatology. Dr York enjoys seeing adult and pediatric patients and treats the full spectrum of dermatology from rashes to moles. She has a special interest in treating scalp disorders and hair loss / alopecia. She finds being a dermatologist to be more of a calling than just a profession and really strives to make a difference in the lives of her patients.
In 2019, Dr York completed a post graduate fellowship in hair and scalp disease in Melbourne. She trained under Prof Rodney Sinclair, a leading world expert in this field. She became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 2021. She completed her Dermatology specialist training at the University of Cape Town and became a fellow of the College of Dermatologists South Africa in 2018. She also holds a Diploma in Dermatology from the University of Cardiff in Wales and a Masters degree in Skin Cancer from the University of Cape Town. She completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, graduating with distinction.
Dr York worked for four years as a Dermatologist in private practice in South Africa before relocating to the Sunshine Coast in 2024. She holds a sessional consultancy position at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital where she is actively involved in the training of future Australian dermatologists.
Dr York has published extensively in international journals in the areas of skin cancer and alopecia. She is on the executive steering committee of The Global Registry of Alopecia Areata Disease Severity and Treatment Safety (GRASS) and is a founding board member of the Skin Cancer Foundation of South Africa.
Outside of work, Dr York is married to Nick, an Ophthalmologist, and is a mom to three beautiful children. She is a Christian and enjoys spending time outdoors in nature, exploring the God-given natural beauty that the Sunshine Coast has to offer.
Dr Jazlyn Read
BPhty, MBBS, MPhil, FACD, ACD Accredited Mohs Surgery
DERMATOLOGIST
Dr Jazlyn Read is a specialist Dermatologist and Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. She is accredited to perform Mohs Micrographic Surgery, and has a particular interest in skin cancer assessment and surgical treatment, especially facial skin cancers.
Dr Read graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2009, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery in 2013. She completed her residency at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and during this time she also obtained a Master of Philosophy. Her thesis, "Familial Melanoma Risk Genes in Queensland," received the prestigious Dean’s Award for Outstanding Higher Degree by Research Theses from the University of Queensland.
Before specialising in Dermatology, Dr Read travelled to Cape Town, South Africa, in 2016 to develop her surgical skills as a Plastic Surgery registrar. She further refined her surgical experience during an additional two years as a Plastic Surgery Principal House Officer in Queensland in 2017 and 2018. This extensive surgical background paved the way for her transition into Dermatology with a focus on surgical procedures.
Dr Read completed her Dermatology training in Queensland, with training positions at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Queensland Institute of Dermatology, and Princess Alexandra Hospital. In addition to her comprehensive Dermatology training, she pursued further subspeciality training and earned a Fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery in April 2024.
Outside of medicine, Dr Read enjoys creative pursuits such as sewing, embracing the challenge of learning golf, and outdoor adventures with her Australian Shepherd dog.
Dr Leith Banney (Coming Soon)

Dr Leith Banney trained in Edinburgh, Brisbane and Cambridge gaining her speciality qualification in 2000. Since then Leith has worked in private practice in Cairns then moving to Cairns Hospital in 2006. Leith set up the hospital Dermatology service and the first training positions outside of Brisbane for Dermatology. In 2014, Leith moved back to the Sunshine Coast and set up public hospital dermatology at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital; she enjoys training and mentoring the next generation of dermatologists. Leith established skin cancer MDT and Dermatopathology meetings at SCUH as well as clinics for combined dermatology immunology, biologic medications and procedural clinics. Original research and involvement in multi centre trials including ACEMID (whole body 3D imaging for moles for melanoma) is another interest. In 2021 Leith and her husband set up Dermatology Solutions to service rural and remote dermatology needs in QLD. Leith provides private online telehealth services for rashes and acne.

Dr Sergio Sara
BSc (Hons), PhD, MBBS, FRANZCO
PRINCIPAL OPHTHALMOLOGIST
Dr Sergio Sara is a comprehensive ophthalmic surgeon with subspecialty training in Oculoplastic Surgery. He manages all general ophthalmic conditions including ocular inflammation; medical management of macular and retinal diseases and glaucoma; and performs cataract and pterygium surgery. In addition, he performs medical and surgical management of oculoplastics conditions including eyelid cancers and their reconstruction, dry/watery eyes, eyelid malposition and thyroid eye disease. He also offers periocular botox injections for some forms of watery eye and facial spams and ticks.
Dr Sara completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours degree, followed by a PhD in Cancer Research at the University of QLD. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the areas of Stem Cell Biology and Cell Signalling/Gene Expression before switching careers and completing a degree in Medicine at the University of Notre Dame (Fremantle). He underwent specialist training in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Sydney Eye Hospital, obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology (FRANZCO). In 2023, Dr Sara underwent a further year of subspecialty training and completed an Oculoplastics Fellowship in Wellington, New Zealand.
Dr Sara has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and presented at local and international meetings. He holds a public position as a Consultant Visiting Medical Officer at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he enjoys teaching and supervising the next generation of ophthalmologists.
Dr Sara is bilingual (speaking fluent Spanish), and is often described as easy going with a relaxed demeanour. He prioritises patient communication and understanding, and takes pride in providing consistent, high-level patient care. Outside of work, Dr Sara enjoys spending time with his wife, family and friends as well as his not so friendly cat, Florence. He enjoys keeping active and exploring the beautiful beaches, lush hinterland and delicious food that the Sunshine Coast has to offer.
He will be offering oculoplastic services only at Beachside Specialist Group but will undertakes general Ophthalmology care at Central Ophthalmology Clinic in Maroochydore.
